listen to your environment with your arms crossed. listen with your palms and arms outstretched towards the sky. compare.


II / CIRCLE OF LIFE
memorize one bird call and listen for it each spring.


III / RITUAL I
choose an object. carry this object until it is worn/broken. bury the object. the internal listening score is complete when one has made peace with the object’s permanent location in the ground.


IV / WITH EARPLUGS I
listen to your internal soundscape. listen to observations with open ears. should a worry arise, internally repeat the phrase over itself until all phonemes become sounds. study these sounds while continuing the repetition; embrace the stasis in this sonic discovery.

with eyes open, listen to your breathing. listen to the natural sounds made by inhaling and exhaling. begin by taking short breaths, centered in your stomach. Gradually take longer breaths. Inhale for x counts, hold for y counts, exhale for z counts (x y z being left up to the listener). observe the natural pitch present in your breath. take note of this pitch and listen for it when not meditating.

listen to your heartbeat in its natural state. when ready, begin to imagine an anxiety-inducing image, still focusing the majority of your attention to your heartbeat. notice the tempo of your heartbeat raise as this image comes into the mind’s eye. shift your internal visual attention to an image that brings immense calm, still focusing attention to your heartbeat. notice how the tempo of your heart slows, relaxes, still keeps pace. celebrate the stasis in its repetition.
